On February 23, the opening ceremony and orientation for the Class of 2024 of Chongben College at Ocean University of China were held in the open space of Xingzhi Building. Thirty-five new students from 11 different colleges joined Chongben, embarking on a new chapter of their university life.Attending the ceremony were Ding Lili, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Ocean University of China; Gao Huiwang, Dean of Chongben College; and Vice Deans Zhao Dongliang, Chen Qing, and Cao Juan.
Ding Lili welcomes the 35 new students who have joined Chongben College warmly. She reviewed the founding process and achievements of Chongben College, and combined excellent examples from people around her to express hope to her classmates from three aspects: clarifying goals, learning cooperation, and understanding gratitude. She hopes that her classmates can remember General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest instructions and high expectations, shoulder the responsibilities and missions that Chong himself shoulders, and strive to become outstanding marine talents with a blue dream and the ability to shoulder the responsibilities of the times.
In his address, Gao Huiwang extended a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2024. Beginning with an analysis of current opportunities and challenges in marine science, he emphasized the significance of both the marine science discipline and the establishment of Chongben College.He introduced the college's distinctive Three-Systems, Three-Approaches talent cultivation model and its trinity educational objectives focusing on knowledge, skills, and literacy. Gao encouraged students to contribute to the advancement of China's marine endeavors, he urged, highlighting the students' future role in serving national maritime development.
Cao Juan presented the letter of appointment to Song Dehai, the class advisor for the 2024 cohort. In his speech, Song expressed his eagerness to build friendships with the students, grow and progress together in the coming years, and create outstanding achievements worthy of Chongben's Class of 2024.
Zhao Dongliang and Chen Qing then issued appointment letters to academic advisors Xu Bochao, Zhang Zhiwei, Zhuang Yunyun, and Guo Lingli. Speaking on behalf of the academic advisors, Xu Bochao highly praised Chongben students' practical abilities and innovative thinking. He encouraged everyone to set clear goals and, more importantly, take concrete actions to achieve them.
Yao Xinyan, a sophomore from the Class of 2022, spoke as the student representative. Drawing from his own academic journey at Chongben College, he shared valuable insights to help the freshmen adapt quickly to their new environment and academic rhythm, while encouraging them to discover their true passions.
Yu Zhuochen, a freshman from the Class of 2024, delivered the new student address. He recounted his serendipitous connection with marine science and Chongben College, expressing his conviction that as Chongben students, they should hold themselves to higher standards and contribute their share to the college's growth and development.
The management team of Chongben College presented college badges to representatives of the Class of 2024, while all incoming freshmen received carefully prepared orientation gift packages.
The ceremony also featured a solemn pledge-taking ritual. In unison, all members of the Class of 2024 recited the Honor Student Oath of Chongben College - their sacred and vows proclaiming the students' confidence and determination to strengthen China's maritime power and dedicate themselves to the deep blue.
