The 2024 Exchange and Study Visits in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

To broaden the international horizons of top-tier students, establish a high-quality platform for mutual learning between domestic and overseas universities, and strengthen cultural confidence and patriotic spirit through multicultural exchange, Chongben Honors College will organize a study tour to Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai from December 8 to December 14, 2024. The details are as follows:

I. Program Overview

This exchange program aims to foster cross-cultural and interdisciplinary communication through academic lectures, alumni discussions, and field visits, while immersing students in the cultural and academic environments of the following institutions:

   ·   The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST): A world-renowned research university that established three tech innovation labs in January 2024, led by three Distinguished Innovation Scholars, to nurture talent and advance scientific commercialization.

   ·   City University of Hong Kong (CityU): One of nine universities granted full self-accreditation status by the University Grants Committee. Its State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution (SKLMP), founded in 2010, leads global research in marine environmental studies.

   ·   University of Macau (UM): Known for its multicultural environment, unique 4-in-1 education model (faculty, residential college, general education, and research), and internationalized curriculum. Over 80% of faculty are globally recruited, with English as the primary teaching language, fostering innovative, globally competitive talents with a strong sense of national identity.

   ·   Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST): The first Macao university to achieve full institutional accreditation by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). It hosts key national research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, and the Macao Coastal Zone Ecological Environment National Observation and Research Station.

   ·   Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU): Its Deep Blue Marine Science Elite Training Base (approved by the Ministry of Education in 2021) at the Zhuhai Campus is one of only three national marine science talent development centers.

Preliminary itinerary: See Attachment 1. The program will be led by college faculty, with no more than 10 students participating.

II. Selection Criteria and Requirements

   ·   Strong patriotism, support for the Party, excellent moral character, good health, and independent living/learning abilities.

   ·   Full-time undergraduates of the Honors College, Ocean University of China.

   ·   Outstanding academic performance with no disciplinary records.

   ·   Proficient in English (listening/speaking) to adapt to English-taught sessions.

   ·   Compliance with local laws, host university regulations, and instructors’ guidance during the program.

   ·   Students will work in 5 pairs (2 students/group). Each group must submit a publicity article on the day of their assigned university visit. Individual reflections are due within two weeks after the program.

III. Program Costs

   ·   Estimated cost: HKD 8,000 per student, covering flights, lectures, accommodation, meals, insurance, visas, and miscellaneous fees. Additional local transportation fees may apply.

   ·   The College will apply for subsidies under the Elite Student Overseas Exchange Program, with approved funding distributed to participants.

   ·   The organizer will not cover costs arising from force majeure events (e.g., natural disasters, flight cancellations).

IV. Application and Selection

  2.  Submit a signed Letter of Commitment (Attachment 2) to Ms. Chi Xin at the College Office by 17:00, November 11.

  3.  Selected candidates will be announced after review.
