At 18:30 on September 11, the lecture Marine Life of Oceanographer Munk-The Pursuit of Chongben Honors College was held in the International Lecture Hall of Ocean Science and Technology Building. Professor Dongliang Zhao, vice dean of Chongben Honors College, gave a wonderful sharing, and Yuran Song, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office and vice dean of Chongben Honors College, presided over the lecture.
Starting from the scientific expedition fleet of OUC, Zhao introduced the “Top-notch Student Training Program 2.0” of Ministry of Education, the top-notch talent training of OUC, and the situation of Chongben Honors College. The life of the famous oceanographer Munk was combined with the resolution of various ocean problems, and the ocean phenomena that people are accustomed to are raised as questions, which arouses deep thought of students. The process of thinking raising and solving problems of elder oceanographers such as Munk has inspired and moved the students a lot. At the end of the lecture, Zhao encouraged and invited the students to join Chongben Honors College and strive to be top talents.
In the interactive session, the students asked questions about what energy is, what the unexplored fields in marine science are, and where the liberal arts can study the ocean. They also asked some relevant questions such as how to enter, the requirements, and the developing plan for students of Chongben Honors College.
More than 300 students from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, the College of Mathematical Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Food Science and Engineering attended the lecture. Chongben Honors College will continue to hold a number of theme activities in the fall semester to enhance teachers and students' understanding of the top-notch student training program.
