Red and green, spring is hard to hide the smiles. In this beautiful season of green outings, the epidemic has spread Chongben students across the country, but it cannot block the enthusiasm of the students and their prospects for the future. Chongben Honors College has a total of four majors: marine biology, marine chemistry and environment, marine geology and geophysics, and physics and oceanography. In the unified training stage that has not been divided into directions, Chongben Honors College has selected 4 excellent academic instructors in the professional field. Provide help for students to expand their professional field of vision, and provide advice and guidance and help when choosing a professional direction in the future.
On April 30, we invited tutors, friends, academic instructors and students to hold a online meeting of academic instructors of Chongben Honors College 2019. The meeting was hosted by the teacher Meng Jingjing, and Gao Huiwang, Dean of Chongben College, Li Hongtao, Deputy Dean and related teachers participated in the whole process.
Professor Zhao Chengtian, the instructor of marine biology, graduated from the Department of Biology of Nanjing University with a bachelor's degree, and graduated from the Department of Biology of Tsinghua University with a Ph.D., and engaged in postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School for the next three years. Currently working in the School of Marine Life and Marine Biodiversity and Evolution Institute of Ocean University of China. Committed to the development and evolution of cilia and the pathogenic mechanism of cilia genetic diseases.
Professor Zhao shared his vision for the future of Chongben Honors College In a peaceful and cordial tone, and shared several important branches and research directions in the field of marine biology to the students. Teacher Zhao mentioned that we must further care about the ocean, understand the ocean, and manage the ocean. The most important thing is to understand the resources in the ocean so that it can serve mankind. As a treasure house of resources, there are many unknown creatures in the ocean, and there are many unknown areas waiting for us to explore. From this, Professor Zhao introduced several applications of marine biology: agriculture, medicine, marine food, etc., and gave a detailed introduction of the OUC discipline setting. Regardless of basic research, practical application or the development of medicine, the ocean is an important treasure house and we need to explore it. Finally, Professor Zhao hopes that the students can find the entry point of their interest in the future study.
Professor Xu Bochao, majoring in marine chemistry and environment, graduated from Ocean University of China with a bachelor degree and Ph.D. major in marine chemistry. During his Ph.D., he was jointly trained at Florida State University. He is a professor at the Key Laboratory of Marine Chemistry Theory and Engineering Technology of the Ministry of Education. He is mainly engaged in the study of micro-analysis of inorganic elements in micro-paleofossils and tracing of ecological disaster processes.
Mr. Xu gave a wonderful description of the characteristics of the subject from the subject content to the suggestions on learning methods. Marine chemistry pays attention to the chemical substances in the ocean. As a resource and tool for further research on the ocean, it is also closely related to other disciplines. Professor Xu specifically mentioned that marine science is an organic whole intersected by multiple disciplines, and it requires in-depth collisions of multiple disciplines to discover interesting phenomena and solve valuable problems. In addition, Mr. Xu also mentioned that the curriculum setting at the undergraduate level is a process of “making the foundation” in the early stage and “raising interest” in the later stage, and introduced a lot of learning methods about chemistry. Finally, Mr. Xu emphasized that we must pay attention to the study of general courses, carry out multi-disciplinary cross, have a big vision, and put our eyes on the level of ocean science to coordinate and understand ocean science.
Associate Professor Guo Lingli, majoring in marine geology and geophysics, graduated from Hebei University of Technology majoring in Geology, Ph.D. majoring in Geophysics from Institute of Geology, China Earthquake Administration. Professor Guo Lingli is associate professor at Ocean University of China, mainly engaged in the structure of seabed resources and disasters, earthquake mechanism Physical simulation work.
Professor Guo had met with Chongben students in the course of General Theory of Earth Science and was an old friend of the students. She interacted with her classmates in a lively and lovely way, and guided her classmates to understand the world of marine geology with her beautiful voice. “One sand, one world” and “one hundred million years” are the research content of geology as far as you can see. From land to sea, from mountains to oceans, the scope is wide and the scales vary greatly, making geology and the earth Physics become a confluence of various disciplines. Professor also mentioned that geology is a new type of discipline. The advancement of science and technology has provided many effective methods for geological research. For our study, Professor Guo suggested that we look at problems from a multi-disciplinary perspective, lay a good professional foundation, maintain the spirit of exploration and scientific research, while grasping the beautiful youth, and breaking out of our own world in the energetic years.
Associate Professor Zhang Zhiwei in Ocean Physics, graduated from Ocean University of China with a bachelor's degree in marine science and a Ph.D. from Ocean University of China, majoring in physics and oceanography. He is an associate professor at the Key Laboratory of Physics and Ocean Education of Ocean University of China.
Professor Zhang went straight to the topic, using the subject itself as the starting point, guided by the introduction of well-known alumni, and introduced the research content of the physical ocean through PPT and videos. Based on the book and his own understanding, the teacher systematically introduced the concepts of physical oceanography to students, and the interaction between the ocean and other circles that need to be considered when studying physical oceanography. As the basis for studying the ocean, physical oceanography has a long history of development in our school and has a wide impact. Regarding the research content of the physical ocean, Professor Zhang took the time and space scale as the axis to explain. From large-scale circulations, to mesoscale vortices and internal ocean waves, to smaller-scale ocean waves and tides, and finally to another research field-air-sea interaction, global climate change, let students feel physics Marine research is closely related to life.
At the end of the meeting, Dean Gao Huiwang of Chongben Honors College expressed his gratitude to the instructors, who could not meet offline during special periods. Dean Gao issued a well-designed electronic appointment letter to the four instructors. Based on the characteristics of Chongben students, Dean Gao issued a dean's question-why are we top-notch? There is no answer to this question, and students need to think in their future lives. At the same time, he urge the students that the road in the future is not easy, and the scenery is beautiful between the ruggedness. However, Chongben Honors College will always be a solid backing for the students. It has a reserve force to help the students climb the peak, and also light up the students. Looking forward to the day of meeting, looking forward to the future of Chongben Honors College.
